Literature Text

The twisted, gnarled, tree.
The crooked branches.
The rough bark.
The hunched, curling, twisting trunk.

Far off from the rest of them--
Who stand straight
And tall
Whose fragrance is pleasing

As the people walk through
The grove of these trees
They notice the twisted tree
And they wonder

"How can something so hideous come from this grove?"
The twisted tree does not know
The other trees do not care
As they grow on to be strong, just like their brothers and sisters

But the twisted tree grows more stooped
And sprouts more crooked branches
And the people think of cutting it down
But who could use such twisted wood?

It does not stack well
It does not cut well
But the children have different eyes
From the rest of the people

And the children see the tree
And they think;
"How fun it would be to play amongst the spirals!
And how fun would it be to swing from the branches!
And how fun it will be when we chase each other around the gnarled trunk!"

So the children play.
And they put the tree to good use.
The tree is so stooped the little ones reach it
And the tree smiles

The odd ones
The deformed ones
The ones deemed useless

Can be used for so much more than they think they can
